The PLAsma and SupraThermal Ion and Composition (PLASTIC)
investigation provides composition (M, M/q), energy spectra and directional
information for 0.3-80 keV/q ions, including
* solar wind H+ and He++ in the 'SWS Small Channel'
* solar wind C, O, MG, Si, and Fe in the 'SWS Main Channel'
* and locally accelerated ions (H+, He++, He+) and pickup ions (He+ less than 40 keV/q) in the 'Wide Angle Partition'
The hardware consists of entrance, time of flight, and electronics subsystems.
Mass spectroscospy is achieved by analysis of energy vs. time-of-flight tracks.
Further detail is available from from Galvin et al, Sp. Sci. Rev. (2008) 136, 437-486.
