The FIPS sensor consists of an electrostatic analyzer (ESA), located at the entrance to the sensor, a post-acceleration chamber between the output of the ESA and the carbon foil, and a time-of-flight telescope. The ESA at the entrance to the FIPS acts as a wide-angle lens for ions. It only allows ions with a specific energy/charge band to enter through its output plane. spase://SMWG/Person/Thomas.Zurbuchen PrincipalInvestigator FIPS web page, Summary sheet http://www.sprl.umich.edu/projects/FIPS/ MassSpectrometer 2005-08-02T00:00:00Z 2015-04-30T00:00:00Z Earth Flyby 2005-08-02 Data Gap 2005-08-03 / 2006-10-25 1st Venus Flyby : 2006-10-25 Data Gap 2006-10-26 / 2007-06-05 2nd Venus flyby : 2007-06-05 Data Gap 2007-06-06 / 2008-01-14 1st Mercury flyby : 2008-01-14 Data Gap 2008-01-15 / 2008-10-06 2nd Mercury flyby : 2008-10-06 Data Gap 2008-10-07 / 2009-09-29 3rd Mercury flyby : 2009-09-29 Data Gap 2009-09-30 / 2011-03-18 Mission phase : 2011-03-18 spase://CNES/Observatory/CDPP-AMDA/MESSENGER
